If you experience a dental issue, you may wonder if you should come in immediately for an emergency appointment or if you can wait until your next routine visit. In these situations, please call our office so that our team can advise you about the best course of action. If necessary, we will prepare to treat your emergency right away.

Here are some of the most common dental emergencies for which we recommend same-day attention:

Unbearable Tooth Pain

Severe tooth pain can be caused by a number of factors, including infection, decay, or injury. If the discomfort is so unbearable that it disrupts your day, making it impossible to eat or focus on anything else, please come in as soon as possible. We will alleviate your pain and address the underlying cause without delay.

Excessive Gum Swelling or Bleeding

An isolated case of gum swelling or bleeding may not be anything to worry about—we’ve all flossed a little too vigorously at one time or another. However, if the swelling or bleeding persists, it could be a sign of something more serious, like infection or gum disease.

Cracked, Broken, or Dislodged Teeth

One of the most alarming dental emergencies is a broken or dislodged tooth. Swift treatment is critical for the survival of your tooth! If your tooth is knocked out completely, gently handle it by its crown, rinse it off, and avoid touching the root. Try to place the tooth back in the socket and hold it there. If it’s too painful, place the tooth in a small container of milk. Call us immediately!

Dental Abscess

An abscess is a pocket of pus that develops as a result of an infection in a tooth or the gums. If you’re experiencing throbbing pain and an unpleasant taste in your mouth, you could have an abscess. At our office, we will drain the abscess, remove the affected tissue, and recommend the next steps for your treatment.
